Prophetic! Famous Russian Writer Eduard Limonov Predicted Ukraine-Russia War 32 Years Ago
He totally nails it!
At the beginning of the 1990s, at one of the protests concerning Crimea and the Black Sea Fleet, Eduard Limonov, a controversial Russian writer and political dissident, made a shocking prophecy that unfortunately came true 32 years later.
According to his prediction, there will eventually be a major conflict in Ukraine due to tensions over the discrimination of the 12 million Russians who live in Ukraine, Crimea, Donbass, and Kharkov, the status of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, etc.
Watch his remarkable prediction, which the Yeltsin and Putin establishments both chose to ignore.
Limonov said: “Are you aware of what will happen tomorrow in Ukraine, for example? Now we can say that the relations between Ukrainians and Russians are more or less friendly. But this… everything changes daily. Just now there was a story with the Black Sea Fleet. Tomorrow it will happen because of Crimea. Each time is escalation of emotion. Nationalism is an emotion, a continuous escalation of emotion. One side starts, the other responds. Then no one remembers who started it. Last December, I was in Yugoslavia. I was in Croatia. In this very region, Slavonia, that Serbs protect. It started the same way there. Before I was there in 1989, it was absolutely quiet there. There were decent, normal people. And now I visited a corpse identification center. There I saw children with their throats cut, their eyes gouged out. The same thing will happen in Ukraine. It will, I tell you! Who wants it? Nobody wants it. It was necessary to immediately protect the rights of 12 million Russians in Ukraine, to stipulate their rights. By what frigging right they declare their… Why should Crimea belong to them? Why should they own the Kharkov region? Why should they own Donbass?”
Limonov was a somewhat eccentric and contentious figure in Russian public life. A former leader of the outlawed National Bolshevik Party, editor of the newspaper Limonka, and head of the opposition party The Other Russia, he transitioned from being an underground poet and Soviet dissident to becoming a well-known writer.
Since 2014, Limonov has supported the Donbass republics, and the annexation of Crimea, and has supported Russian forces in the Russian - Euromaidan conflict.
He passed away in Moscow on March 17, 2020.
In my article Eight reasons why Ukraine will end up like Yugoslavia, I analyze his accurate comparison of the two countries.
As prescient as this sounds, it discounts the influence of outside agitators, the U.S. Empire Deep State, particularly, in fomenting discord.
I am not only "somewhat eccentric" - I am very eccentric. Can't prove it, but I got close to predicting the war in Ukraine in 1991 too! Eccentricity has nothing to do with it; any one with an iota of knowledge of the Russian empire and the place that Crimea held in that history and what it "meant" to Russia and Russians, could have seen that conflict - and probably war - was baked into the Belovezha Accords. For Ukraine to retain control of Crimea - ceded to them merely on some whim of Khrushchev 40+ years earlier- was clearly not a stable arrangement. At this point, I figure NATO big thinkers realized that at the time but decided to treat it as a feature, not a bug (as they say).
